A one day look at the unfoldment of the neonate and movements toward postnatal competency in terms of movement and nourishment. Chinese medicine offers many ideas about the maternal-child bond and the factors needed for developmental separation and ultimately individuation. We begin by considering the constitution and the Chinese developmental theory of the the establishment of the 1st ancestry by the Extraordinary Vessels. We learn to recognize and facilitate the clearing of fetal toxins during the first stages of life. The class dives deep into Chinese developmental theory, with references to the sinew and luo channels. We learn how reflexes give way to conscious movement patterns as a baby grows into toddlerhood. Key aspects of breastfeeding and weening are examined in a developmental context. The teeth provide a model of explanation for the introduction of solid foods and a self sufficiency of nourishment. We look at the role of the mother's own emotional landscape as empowering or inhibiting a child's increasing self reference and independence, offering treatments for healing the mother, child and the dynamic. 10-4pm. or Livestream via Zoom (indicate choice at purchase). 5 CEU's (NCCAOM)
