Diane Gioioso began her studies of the Chinese medical tradition last 24 years ago and is a licensed acupuncturist in Maryland and the District of Columbia.. She has intensely studied acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Her initial training was grounded in Five Element acupuncture with J.R. Worsley and his senior students at Academy for Five Element Acupuncture. Since 1999 Diane have been a student of Jeffery Yuen, Daoist priest and foremost teacher of Classical Acupuncture. She formerly served as acupuncture and Chinese herbal and doctoral faculty at Maryland University of Integrative Health (MUIH, formerly TAI Sophia). As herbal faculty she taught pregnancy, postpartum, and dietary therapy. She was also faculty in MUIH’s Women’s Health Post Graduate Certification, and passionately teaches women's health around the country to the profession.
In 2018, Diane founded Nine Stars Botanicals, a company producing the highest quality Chinese herbal remedies and skin care.
In additional to the common tools of acupuncture and Chinese herbs, Diane integrates dietary changes, essential oils or stones- employing these modalities as reflections of Classical Chinese medicine. She is among a small group of Chinese medical practitioners who incorporate these into the framework of the medicine. She has studied these additional modalities with Jeffrey Yuen, over her years of studies in his programs.
Diane maintains a raw herb pharmacy on site for my clients’ convenience. She makes bespoke herbal formulas and topical applications as required to empower healing between treatments.
Outside the clinic Diane is an active educational consultant, helping to articulate Chinese medical principles to families, groups and businesses. Diane is an active Feng Shui consultant in the US and Caribbean, applying healing models maybe applied to land and commercial and residential properties. She has developed curricula and programs to bring Chinese medicine and its applications into Western integrative medical settings and cross cultural educational settings.
My Statement on Healing
I adhere to the Chinese adage, "One disease many treatments, many diseases one treatment." You will have an individualized diagnosis that recognizes the complexity of disease process and its contributing factors and your status of health. Together we make a plan to return to health. Above all else, I challenge patients to see themselves as their most potent medicine, whatever the condition.
My clinical practice treats various specialties within Chinese medicine - gynecology, fertility and pregnancy, pediatrics, mental/emotional conditions, neurology and dermatology. I am a general practitioner, and open the door to all conditions, welcoming all who seek change.
Healing requires a curiosity about other ways of being. People seek me out when they are ready for change. This necessity for change may be because there is discomfort or because they have outgrown the conditions that previously gave them satisfaction. Cultivation and transformation is possible in any given appointment, nay given moment of our lives.
I am passionate about Chinese Medicine and the gifts it can bring to the world. I extend the vantage point of Chinese Medicine beyond the treatment room: by creating healthy spaces with Feng Shui, by teaching classes that challenge my profession, by creating effective and natural products, and by consultation to organizations and business looking for growth and organizational harmony. I do not believe that change is compartmental.
